Also called “Michigan Banana”, Pawpaw is a large, sweet, tropical fruit that is easy to grow. Native to North America, Pawpaw is a beautiful small tree that produces large quantities of delectable fruits in the fall. Flesh is creamy, light yellow, custard like and reminiscent of the flavor of banana.
We love to eat them straight off of the tree (don’t eat the skin or seeds). Also fabulous served with a contrasting tart fruit such as fall red raspberries or currants. Pulp can be preserved by freezing.
Trees will grow in full sun to part shade, are deer resistant (be sure to protect young trees), and can grow under walnut trees. Grows in USDA zones 5-8.
Pawpaw Tree's native range is Michigan to Georgia but the best, largest fruited and most cold-hardy strains hail from Michigan.
Trees will grow in part shade, are somewhat deer resistant, and can grow under walnut trees.
These seeds are from our friend Marc Boone who has been growing pawpaws since 1986. Marc's trees are mostly grafted trees with some wild trees - most trees produce large frui. These seeds will grow trees that will make fruit in a range of sizes but all are sure to taste good! Pawpaws are listed on the Slow Food Ark of Taste. (If we are out of Boone Farm seeds we will send Nature & Nurture Select seeds instead)
Grow in USDA zones 5-8.
SEEDS ONLY AVAILABLE IN OCTOBER & NOVEMBER.
